As Christopher Hitchens says, "The only historical revolution with any verve left in it, or any example to offer others, was the American one."
The trouble is that that American Revolution is winding down. Market capitalism is yielding to a form of state capitalism that extols the authoritarian and comes close to a bland, 21st century sort of fascism.
Wouldn't it be interesting if the next historical revolution would be the biblical one? The problem with the rabbinic regime is that its leaders and its practitioners think too small. A great change is afoot in the world's affairs. The Jewish people could be its victims or its victors. To be its victors the Jewish people need to revive the ancient world's notions of purity and sanctity and love and caring. To promulgate the next great historical revolution the Jewish people need to embrace their own ancient heritage as the contemporary destiny for the world.
