Humility and discipline are reflected in the values of shabbat and miqdash. Both are meant to caution the ruling elite in the administration of authoritative rule. Biblical teachings are meant to give guidance to the rulers so they don't engage in the sort of free-for-all we saw in the Thirty Years' War or WWI.
