With the coming of the Moshiach halakha must come to an end, to be replaced by something like mishpat haTorah. By understanding the Torah's place in the larger body politic of the Jewish people we sub-ordinate halakha to the more general project of the establishment of and the sustenance of a Jewish state through which the destiny of the Jewish people can get played out. The task of the Israeli rabbinate is largely one of decommissioning the diaspora teachings of halakha and of replacing them with something like mishpat haTorah.
