Humility is the ancient world's way of dealing with the limits of power. Satiation is to the economic sphere what humility is to the political sphere. Hubris in politics is what greed and excess is in economics.
They say markets constrain greed and excess; democracy, to constrain hubris. In the biblical regime those constraints come from the institutions of shabbat and miqdash.
