The Jew in exile serves the local monarch but the Jew as sovereign serves the divine ruler. When the Jewish sovereign serves as vassal to the emperor of the region he is really simulating his exilic cousins.
The challenge for the Jewish ruler is to resist imperial temptations. It is not to manage the rule of an empire but to manage to avoid the rule of an emperor.
When Reaganite America became imperial and the Jewish neo-Conservatives became his lackeys, the Israeli right-wing naturally and enthusiastically fell into the colonial honey pot and returned right back to the fleshpots of imperial Egypt.
