The impulse to believe I'm right because you're wrong is a manifestation of talionis. The pleasure one gets from sitting at table dumping on all the things that are wrong with this or that social class or party or person is the pleasure of putting in place those one feels have violated something for which they need to be punished. Talionis is the ground of an honor/shame culture. Shame is a form of punishment.
