Solo scriptura is about politics

The ostensible bargain the Jews made with God, with the world, and with themselves – that the Jews will forego politics and power in return for which the world will not kill the Jews but only oppress them – that bargain was clearly undone by both God and by the world at large with the prosecution of the Genocide. The new bargain with both God and the world at large is that the Jewish people need a homeland to survive. A Jewish State has replaced political passivity as the necessary strategy for Jewish survival. So now both God and the world at large have done their part. The task remaining is for the Jewish people themselves to begin to accept the political character of their continued existence as a people.

The long diaspora had taught the Jewish people to blind themselves to the political character of their own political issues. Not only the Haredi but the secular Jews as well have refused to understand the condition of the Jewish people – the Jewish question – in political terms. The reconstitution of politics into the Jewish self-understanding will require the revival of Scripture. Solo scriptura will bring the 21st century Jewish people into their own political self-embrace.
