The basis of deservedness is the creator-creature relationship. The creator deserves his creatures.
The irony is that deservedness is at the same time tempered by the creature's autonomy. What we deserve, in some sense, we cannot have. To deserve is to own what is un-ownable.
The other side of the creator is the destroyer, wich is why deservedness applies as well to punishment as to reward.
