Tradition and Nature used to temper the left hemisphere's ability to dominate the right's.
Tradition would convey the common sense that only experience teaches; and Nature would limit the effectiveness of the instrumental attitude to the world. No longer. Tradition is becoming merely a museum of anachronisms; and Nature is being packaged, sequestered and overwhelmed.
The function of miqdash is to fortify Tradition's temperance of instrumental hubris while the function of Shabbos is to fortify Nature's.
