The unbreachable defences of conceptual systems

"Goethe, whose scientific writings are fascinating and too little known today, warned against the tendency immediately to reduce observation to conception, thus losing the power of the object in all its newness to help us break out of the otherwise unbreachable defences of our conceptual systems." (The Master and His Emissary, Iain McGilchrist, 2009; page 373).
Breaking out of the unbreachable defences of our conceptual systems is how we stay young in our maturity and how we empower our maturity with the passion of youth.
