The contradiction inherent in John Kerry’s public image was that he was at once a hero of the Vietnam War while also being a hero of the anti-war movement.
The tragedy of John Kerry was that he didn't have the strength of character to clarify the two, nor did he have the greatness to carry the latter forward to the discredit of the former.
The inability of the American people to resolve the disgrace of the Vietnam War is what led to the disgrace of the War in Iraq.
