The exercise of procreative power

In honor/shame societies sexuality is closely tied to the display of male virility, which is conveyed by the exercise of power in procreative matters.
The honor of the family, which is to say, the honor of the head of the family trumps the wishes and desires of the family members. Marrying and conceiving in ways that do not enhance the honor standing of the broader family unit is seen as a disgrace and is understood by the other men in the societies as a sign of weakness on the part of the family head.
