Honor & authority

The difference between honor and authority is that honor must be commanded while authority can only be bestowed. 

Honor requires display and swagger and the public demonstration of power; authority is humble and self-effacing, it cannot be pursued and must be defended by others who subject themselves to the sanctity of what they deem authoritative.
