Not until the day that collabaration with the Israelis signifies an honorable act among the Palestinian notables will the possibility of resolution of the Arab war against Israel become real.
The Palestinian notables today explain the dominance of Israel as an instance of imperialist, Western policy. While it is a great shame for them repeatedly to lose wars to the army of tiny Israel, it is no shame to being the victim of a world-wide imperialist conspiracy to keep the Arabs subjugated.
The real question is how does the Arabs’ honor/shame, power/challenge system transform into one of authority and official duty? How do the institutions that depersonalize the power come into being. Such institutions for depersonalizing power is the keystone of the mishkan.
The notables of Palestine have wholesale lost face among their Arab brothers throughout the Middle East. The resolution of the Arab war against Israel will come when the Palestinian notables once again can hold their heads up among the tribal councils of the Arab world.
The way to portray the Palestinian people is in terms of their notables. Altogether, the Western press should begin to represent the Muslim world in terms of the power-holding of the notables' families rather than in ideological terms, which largely have little meaning to the interested parties.
