Vengeance is a two-edged sword.
Vengeance meets out justice where there is no higher authority enforcing fairness; it is also the ultimate expression of power in the system that establishes that authority.
The difference between the tribal and the constitutional is the relative degree of personal vs corporate action.
In the Middle East the corporate is personal while in the West the personal is corporate.
What does the personal have that the corporate could never have? The hormonal/carnal way of looking at the world.
