The Arab world has never recovered from the collapse of the Ottoman Empire.
It feels like the Arabs and Muslims need imperial rule for them to be able to continue in their governance of power/challenging. Without an imperial overlord, the power/challengers know no limit, and thus destroy the fundamental fabric of their societies.
Until they reconfigure their political institutions, and until they free themselves from the resource curse, it seems, the Arab peoples will not be fit for self-rule. The United Nations is the replacement for the global imperial ruler. Because its mandate is to keep an Arab imperial ruler from coming to the fore, the UN is, in effect, keeping the Arab world in servitude.
