Gone with the wind

Scarlett is what the future of the South might have been:
  • headstrong,
  • fertile,
  • lovely,
  • courageous,
  • bound to the land,
  • ready unashamedly to fight and to die for what was right and good.
Scarlett was however torn between the emptiness of the old Southern code of honor that was Ashley or the new, rogueish valor that was Rhett.
She chose Ashley and so was gone with the wind, with his outmoded principles, outmoded even in his own mind.
