The urgencies of their times

The wrestlings of history, the issues over which men and women struggle in the urgencies of their times, are always and invariably over what is sacred.
It comes in various guises. It is
  • sometimes about the past and other times about the future,
  • sometimes about the old and tradition and other times about the young and progress,
  • sometimes about power and sometimes about suffering,
  • sometimes about glory and sometimes about authenticity,
  • sometimes about steadfastness and duty and sometimes about imagination and risk-taking, etc.
It is however always and invariably about what it is worth to live for and to die for.
