The signifier of reverence

The difference between honor power vs authority power is bragaddocio vs humility.
The difference between bragaddocio and humility is where the impulse to submission comes from. In the honor/shame system, the impulse to submit comes from the exogeneous exercise of greater power by some other player; in the authority/duty system the impulse to submit comes from the endogeneous acceptance into oneself of a higher authority as embodied in the general workings of the social system to which one belongs.
The word 'Islam' means to submit. It is the expression of the introduction of this new system of social interaction and intercourse, where this submission to a higher power comes not from the demands of that higher power and the exercise by that higher power of his prerogatives but from an inner acceptance, by the display of humility before that power, and by the imitation of that submission in all the human institutions that would come to constitute that society so that the institutions themselves would imitato dei and derive their power from the submission of their members in the same way as the members of society submit themselves in the first place to the higher authority of God.
Thus the centrist institutions derive their power distribution from the consecratory power of the society's central fountain of sanctity, the institution where God resides, the sacred residence. When the Bible prohibits the application of the implements of war to the building of the earthen altar, the altar that signifies Man's submission to God, it does so to remove any sense of coersion from the institution. Why? Because the submission has to be initiated from Man in order for the humility and the incorporation of the sense of duty to be authentic, and, for that, no hint of coersion may be felt.
The earthen altar is the signifier of reverence in the system of symbols which is the institution of the mishkan. It is humble and it is topped of and it is of the earth and it is humus and humility and human. Through the dutiful action of the service that takes place at the earthen altar Man establishes his authoritative power and is able to build social systems that operate on the basis of self-restraining authority rather than on the basis of self-aggrandizing honor/shame.
