The God of vengeance

The only way to defeat a society that has no respect for authority is by applying the rules of vengeance and honor. 

The first teaching of religion is to announce the eradication of paganism. Paganism is that spiritual system which glorifies and collectively arouses the blood lust in the human soul, which lust is the impulse that activates vengeance and the exercise of raw power. Where societies are ruled by the codes of vengeance and honor, the authority of religion defeats them according to the codes of vengeance and honor. The Old One is the God of vengeance so the He can fulfill the role of the pagan gods while, at the same time, allowing for societies to be governed by legitimate authority. 

The religious leadership displays a willingness to engage in the exercise of raw power to subdue those who respect only raw power. The religious leadership announces a general prohibition of societies that conduct themselves according to the rules of vengeance, honor, and raw power. 

Authority prohibits society anywhere that does not respect authority.
