In covenantal matters the question is how do things self-regulate?
The argument of scripture is that covenantal matters are unstable. Once they tip out of balance they tend to go ino positive feedback and undermine the entire covenantal system rather than, like other sorts of social mechanisms, being able to right themselves naturally. Covenants need stewardship and an understanding of the covenantal relationships and their boundaries for them to operate properly and durably. They need unnatural government to work.
The problem with the present-day circumstances is that the covenantal threats are global. Because covenantal violations are not self-correcting, the imbalances of the modern world threaten to undo the ecological balances of the entire world.
The argument the extractors make, that the system will self-correct, is self-serving and not founded on concrete evidence. Moreover, the argument the extractors make on the self-correcting character of the resource curse is ironic because it is predicated on the notion that the creatives will be the ones who rescue the system from the excesses of the extractives. The problem is that the extractives systematically tilt the governmental playing field in favor of extraction and against creativity.
With the extractives overwhelming the entire planet's covenantal balance the world truly is moving toward apocalypse.
