What is taken as given is the context for conduct and behavior and action.
Gift exchange and gratitude and the appreciation of benevolence are important because they define the contextual frame. That's why it's difficult to talk directly about the value of what's taken as given because it's difficult to talk directly about contextual matters.
The contextual frame defines the condition of the actor rather than the issues about which the actor needs to make decisions. The condition is the long-term manifestation of welfare. It is how welfare gets stored in a person. That's where abundance and surplus gets stored, in the context, in the manifestation of what gets to be taken for granted.
Abundance registers as a benign and beneficent environment.
