The clash of civilizations between the West and the rest is being implemented in the esthetic domain. The cultural and esthetic incursions of the West into the Middle East is what the Muslim world feels most intensely and objects to most strenuously.
What we are witnessing is a war of pornographies, where the West inflicts (against the will of the Muslims) the images of women in dress and pose which are titillating and arousing of the flesh lust; while the Muslims inflict (against the will of the West) the images of men and women in violation and mutilation which are titillating and arousing of the blood lust.
These two paganisms are battling against each other over the media – entertainment and news, respectively – in the esthetic dimension.
