To each according to his need; from each according to his ability – the problem with that maxim is the first part describes the scarcity equation while the second part describes the abundance equation.
Each man for himself describes scarcity's slogan; one for all and all for one describes abundance's slogan.
The impulse of caring, of deriving pleasure from the welfare and accomplishment of others, from externalities, as it were, kicks in beyond the sova point.
On the productivity side the challenge is to acknowledge the credit others (on whom one was dependent) are due for one's own accomplishments, which is to say, to cost the endeavor properly; on the consumption side the challenge is to appreciate the advantage others (who are one's dependents) gain from the endeavor, which is to say, to reckon the benefits properly.
Caring is the evaluation of what one un-owns. One un-owns all the excess beyond one's sova point.
