Extrinsic versus intrinsic motivators

Extrinsic versus intrinsic motivators: incentives don't work when creativity is crucial and when timing is crucial; and they surely don't work when loyalty is crucial.
Mechanistic reward and punishment don't operate well in a complex social and economic setting. They work well for simple problems or simple functions but not when the narrowing of focus distorts one's vision. The introduction of extrinsic motivators leads to people seeking the simple solution, which often turns out to include the plundering of the resilient core.
Free market fundamentalism will have the effect of forcing extraction and exploitation into the political/economy.
Regimentation means not only not-gift exchange, it also means not-incentives.
