A world of aimless consumption

Need is defined in terms of will rather than welfare.
We need in order to achieve some purpose. Once we achieve that purpose we become satisfied and our purpose subsides.
A world where more is always better is a world of aimless consumption – aimless because it has no purpose, no arena where the expression of will can properly be played out.
