Particularity

  • In market transaction we express our preferences;
  • In gift exchange we bestow our favors.
When we favor someone with the grace of our beneficence we are demonstrating preference for a person, which preference manifests as particularity toward that person to the exclusion of others.
The particularity of personal relationship mirrors the exclusivity of the relation of private property.
