A healthy culture

The need to have more and more material goods for the sake of fulfilling oneself because one's spirit is empty is just one version of the malady. Some people wound themselves to create that feeling of fulfillment, some become addicted, some pursue sex or ambition relentlessly, etc. 
So many of the spiritual maladies of the modern day are each versions of the sense of being lost in a culture that cannot or does not know how to give proper direction. Many experts in the culture try to give direction by encouraging people to take an individual path, be it Buddhism or Twelve Step or Sunday morning psychologists or watching sitcoms for solace or finding a redemptive God. It's all bad advice. The honest truth is that it is the culture that needs to correct this problem.
