The impulse to achieve justice as deservedness rivals the impulse to prevail in competition. Indeed, the impulse to prevail could well be derivative of the impulse to deservedness. That would distinguish the will to win at all costs from the will to beat the competition under the rules of sportsmanship and thereby to deserve the glory of victory.
