Nourishing the sacred middle ground

The task of the Israeli public intellectual is to explore the sacred middle ground and to help make it robust and full bodied.
Absent constant nourishment the sacred middle ground could well ooze back into either of the two extremes of the grid – the intimate domain of the individual and his family or the high glory domain of the 200 million – into either personal transcendence, or a catholic institutional structure or the wedding together of Church with State. As soon as that happens, the sacred begins to evaporate and with that evaporation comes the evaporation of traditional values that sustain resiliency and sustainability.
