The popular culture has about it a sort of totalitarian flavor. Totalitarian regimes have one characteristic in common: they lack a sense of humor. Humor is how we manage nuance in public. Totalitarians and rabble rousers both prefer to quash nuance in favor of the implementation of their agendas. It's all left hemisphere.
