Public emotion

There is no such thing as public opinion in the Middle East, there is only public emotion. 

We need to parse the question of neural vs hormonal ways of knowing according to whether they are private or public ways of knowing. What does public emotion mean and how does it work? 

Public opinion can be managed by the instruments of consensus building. Public emotion needs to be managed in a different way, and that's probably what the ancient world's institutions were all about. 

The modern world has invented institutions for the management of public opinion but the ancient world had invented institutions for the management of public emotion. 

Intensity is an emotional matter, extensity is an abstract matter.
