In the early stage of Middle Eastern de-colonialization, European ideology took hold, most imperfectly.
What began as democracy, socialism, freedom, and widespread development descended instead into single-man rule, political assassination, and bureaucratic corruption.
Then the second wave of ideological development began in Europe proper, where transplanted Middle Easterners developed an autonomous identity and then brought it back to the Middle East.
It is this second version that has morphed into Islamo-paganism.
