A society in decline is a society in desecration. Degeneracy comes from the breakdown of the sacred in the social order. When the sacred breaks down, the institutions that had been promoting good in the society become the instruments of evil. Art and terror and the productive sector combine to suck the remaining life out of the society.
False gods are not ideologically on the wrong side of virtue, or of good and evil; false gods are the gods of societies that have gone over to the dark side. Every society is susceptible to going over to the dark side. The God of the Bible teaches how to stay on the side of light, on the side of enhancing abundance rather than on becoming a slave to it.
Sustainability is about maintaining the sacred in proper repair. The Bible teaches sanctity because it understands the connection between the sacred and the maintenance of the life force.
