The first law of thermodynamics, the conservation of matter and energy, says that Man cannot create ex nihilo. That law is why in the Chumash the term assah predominates. Assah means to devise out of that which is already given. Assiah pre-supposes the givenness of the natural order. Assiah takes as given God's role in the production process.
