Pollution and impurity

The question of waste management is the question of covenant. When a population begins to bury itself in its own waste it's a sign that it has violated its covenants with its ecological covenantal partners.
The symptom of covenantal violation is pollution and impurity.
When the Biblical system associates death and discharge with impurity, it is dealing with the matter of spiritual waste. Likewise when the cultic system focuses on ablutions as a way to mark the distinction between the mortal and the divine realms, they mark the boundaries as people pass back and forth between the two realms, be they ordinary Israelites or ministers servicing the one or the other realm.
