A matter of lack of appreciation

The opposite of reverence is hubris. Hubris is the violation of covenantal boundaries. It is not simply arrogance or self-glorification, though those vices contribute to the error of irreverance which leads to hubris. Hubris is rather the result of the lack of appreciation for the mutual needs that covenants fulfill. Hubris is not a matter of usurpation so much as it is a matter of lack of appreciation.
