Just In Time

Just in time (JIT) processes encourage distribution systems that are better articulated than are the systems that depend on buffering, storage and inventorying. The fact that spoilage is an issue, the fact that a good has a short time fuse on it, makes it more likely for the system to encourage cooperation and collaboration.
The advantage of JIT is not merely the reduction in inventory costs, it is largely the improvements in communication that come of better articulation between the various sub-systems in a production process; and more than just getting better communication, the improvement in integration would push the sub-systems into a single, working system.
