Abstract from the complexity that comes from market interactions and posit instead a world that has modest artificial impact on the natural environment, with little need for energy because there is little specialization that comes of the expansion of the market and the consequent increase in specialization and its attendant need for transportation.
Consider rather a world where every household produces its own supply in the garden out back, and from the woods even further back. In the limiting case what we have is a single, childless couple, without clothes or shelter, able to pick low-hanging fruit from trees and the ground.
