As the written alphabet moves from representation to abstraction so does money move from the exchange value of specie to the abstraction of fiat currency.
As the word becomes more real than the thing so does money become more real than the goods it can buy.
Sippehr means both to tell and to count. The one is the government/military/political function; the other is the market/commercial/economic function.
