National sovereignty gives a people the opportunity to define their relation with a sacred, divine Other in terms of a property relation rather than in terms of a civic or a political or a spiritual relationship.
The rendering of covenantal partnership as property rights (chuqim umishpatim) rather than as spiritual ephemera brings into play the quotidian, material life of the people so that the sova point becomes integrated into the self-understanding of the members of society.
