One reading: Sheviit prohibits planting and harvesting for domestic consumption; working the soil for foreign export is permitted, at least until the rest of the world adopts the institution of the sabbatical year.
If the whole world observed a sabbatical year, it would encourage world peace because it would mean world-wide sharing of food and world-wide recognition of God's apportionments.
