Activity for its own sake

When people do something for its own sake they exercise a part of themselves that can make sense only under conditions of abundance.
Totalitarian regimes cannot tolerate activity for its own sake. That orientation establishes a value system of excellence which rivals the totalitarian value system, and totalitarian value systems cannot tolerate rivalry of any sort or of even the most insignificant dimension, scale or scope.
Doing something for its own sake is an expression of individual, personal dignity that flies in the face of the totality of the dominance of the extremist ideological regime. When the leadership encourages the people to do things for their own sake it is, in effect, encouraging the people towards autonomy, dignity and the contentment of abundance.
