Hubris and plunder and war

The American capitalists were better at extracting wealth from the natural environment than were the Soviet communists. That both sides of the Cold War were in effect extractors set things up for the aggression that arose between them. A plundering stance leads easily into a violent stance. If we want world peace, we must pursue a culture of satiation. The entire super-structure of contemporary international relations and rivalry is the outgrowth of the exploitation and hubris that has defined human societies since the dawn of civilization.
