Caring measures the inalienable

Caring is about projecting oneself into another situation, another time, another person, etc.
Caring is a measure of how much of oneself one can bring to bear in a given situation. It is not about how much one is willing to pay. You can pay a fortune for something and not care about it, and you can be unwilling to pay anything for something about which you care a great deal.
Caring measures the inalienable side of the equation.
