The commons as helping a lost child

If there were a lost child on the street, people would not be indifferent to its welfare irrespective of whether they did or did not have a personal relationship with the child. They would see to it that the child was well taken care of. Everyone would behave in this way. Such an attitude is at the core of the notion of the commons.
