Fascism and the politics of resentment becomes popular near the peak of economic super-abundance when people are beginning to sense that the easy money is no longer available and some hard choices are in the offing. Communism flourishes in a political climate that has become sensitive to injustice while fascism flourishes when the ruling elite needs to alter the rules of the game to adjust the society to the coming, new, harsher realities.
