How much someone deserves is a socially determined amount. People who have achieved socially noteworthy stations are given honors or shames, which would enlarge or shrink how much the actor could deviate from the equality that is the starting point of what people deserve. That equality is the minimum below which someone suffers feelings of loss and sacrifice.
Loss and sacrifice are things that apply to the person in their inalienable guise.
Honor and shame are manifestations of punitive justice.
