Avraham, Yitzchoq and Yaaqov all favored the son who was outside the stream of Judaic destiny. YHWH had to train their political visions to the Arava. The relation between YHWH and Avraham, Yitzchoq and Yaaqov was not nearly as sympathetic as subsequent legend would have us believe.
