The racism of imperialism was bred in Southern Africa; the bureaucracy of imperialism was bred in Northern Africa – Algeria and Egypt. Both edges of the continent were used by the imperialist powers to connect Europe to Asia – the Cape of Good Hope followed by the Suez Canal.
